The Karnataka government’s approval of a 4% minority quota in government contracts has sparked a fresh political debate, with BJP State President BY Vijayendra strongly opposing the move, calling it an act of "Muslim appeasement politics" by the Congress.
Speaking on the issue, Vijayendra clarified that the BJP is not against the Muslim community but opposes the Congress’s alleged appeasement tactics. “BJP is not against Muslims, but we are against Congress's Muslim appeasement politics. Yesterday, I was watching Deputy CM DK Shivakumar. He challenged the BJP to give important posts to the Muslim community. I want to remind him that it was the BJP that appointed Dr. Abdul Kalam as the President and made Najma Heptulla, Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, and Mohammad Arif Khan governors of states,” Vijayendra stated.

Raising questions over the legality of the reservation, the BJP leader further added, “Where is the provision to give 4% reservation in government contracts? Is this constitutional? We will strongly oppose this move.”
The Karnataka government's decision to provide a 4% quota for minorities in government contracts is seen as part of its larger welfare agenda. However, the BJP has criticized the Congress for allegedly using reservation policies for political gains.
