Union minister Piyush Goyal has firmly ruled out any leadership changes in Maharashtra following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) disappointing performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Despite losing a significant number of seats, the BJP is concentrating on a comprehensive strategy to ensure victory for the Shiv Sena-BJP-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) coalition in the upcoming assembly elections.

"There will be no change in leadership in Maharashtra," stated Piyush Goyal after the Maharashtra BJP's core group meeting with party president JP Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Speculation had been rife that Rao Saheb Patil might be appointed as the state president, and doubts loomed over the continued alliance with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. However, Goyal clarified that discussions focused on the coalition's strategy for the forthcoming elections.

"The BJP leaders discussed the strategy to ensure the re-election of the MahaYuti alliance in the upcoming assembly election," Goyal added, underscoring the party's commitment to the existing leadership and coalition.

The meeting was a high-profile affair, attended by senior BJP leaders including BL Santosh, Bhupender Yadav, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Chandrakant Patil, Pankaja Munde, Raosaheb Danve, and Vinod Tawde, as reported by PTI.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP saw a dramatic reduction in its seats, winning only nine compared to 23 in 2019. The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, which had secured 41 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra in 2019, saw this number plummet to just 17. The current National Democratic Alliance (NDA) includes seven seats for the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and one NCP member.

In response to the election results, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had offered to resign from the MahaYuti government to concentrate on organizing efforts for the September-October assembly polls.

"We have prepared a blueprint for the upcoming assembly elections and how to win it along with the MahaYuti alliance partners," Fadnavis stated post-meeting, reflecting the coalition's proactive approach towards the upcoming political battle.
