Tension and chaos erupted at a public event attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the Gandhinagar area on Friday, marking her first public appearance after being attacked earlier this week.

According to reports, a man disrupted the event by shouting slogans against the CM following an argument with local traders. Security personnel swiftly removed the accused from the venue. Gandhinagar MLA Arvind Singh Lovely was present at the site during the incident.

The disruption occurred just two days after Gupta was assaulted during a ‘Jan Sunvai’ public meeting at her official residence in Civil Lines. The attacker, identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya from Rajkot, had approached the CM with papers related to a court case before reportedly slapping her and verbally abusing her. Sakariya’s relative is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Media reports suggest that Sakariya is a dog lover and may have been agitated by the Supreme Court’s recent verdict to relocate stray dogs to shelters in Delhi-NCR. His mother also indicated to the police that her son was mentally unstable.

Following the earlier attack, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta has been placed under Z-category security. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos have been deployed to ensure her safety during public appearances.

Sakariya was sent for a five-day police remand on Thursday, and an attempt-to-murder case has been registered against the 41-year-old. Delhi Police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the attack.
