China Warns U.S To Stop The Tariff Numbers Game Amid Escalating Trade Conflict, As Washington Imposes 245% Tariffs On Chinese Imports

China has warned the United States that it will pay no attention to the "tariff numbers game" if Washington continues with its heavy-handed tariff policies. This statement came in response to the White House’s announcement that China now faces tariffs as high as 245% due to its retaliatory measures in the ongoing trade conflict.

The escalating tensions between the two countries have seen the U.S. impose a sweeping tariff of up to 245% on Chinese imports. The move is part of an effort to counteract what the U.S. claims are unfair trade practices by China, a policy that has now been sharply intensified under the Biden administration.

In a fact sheet released by the White House, it was stated that more than 75 countries have reached out to negotiate new trade deals, but China, having retaliated, continues to face these significant tariffs. The U.S. also accused China of restricting the export of vital materials such as gallium, germanium, and antimony—materials with potential military applications—which Beijing denied.

China’s response has been to raise additional tariffs on U.S. imports, further inflaming the situation. Last week, it increased tariffs on U.S. goods to 125% as retaliation for the Trump administration’s previous 145% levies on Chinese exports. In addition, Beijing has filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO), arguing that American tariffs are detrimental to the global multilateral trading system.
