In a candid admission during his visit to Gujarat, senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot acknowledged the party's electoral setbacks in the state while reaffirming its commitment to rebuilding and reconnecting with the electorate.
Speaking at a Congress convention in Ahmedabad, Pilot said, "I admit, and I have no hesitation in saying this here in Gujarat, that we were not able to win the last elections in the state. However, the Congress has deep and strong roots in Gujarat. We will have to work to reconnect with all those voters, and I believe this convention will give that effort greater strength."
His remarks come at a crucial time as the Congress attempts to revive its fortunes in the BJP-stronghold state ahead of upcoming elections. Gujarat, which has been a BJP bastion for decades, has seen the Congress struggle to convert its historical presence into electoral victories.
Pilot’s tone struck a balance between realism and optimism, urging party workers to view the current phase as an opportunity for groundwork and grassroots mobilisation. His comments also reflect a larger push within the party to focus on rebuilding regional connections and mobilising cadre strength in states where the Congress once had a significant presence.
The former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister’s appeal to Congress workers and leaders in Gujarat is being seen as a part of the party's larger national strategy to strengthen its state units and prepare for future electoral challenges.
