With the Bihar Assembly elections expected later this year, the Congress party on Friday unveiled a targeted women-centric campaign aimed at expanding its voter base among female constituents. As part of the initiative, Mahila Congress workers will distribute sanitary pads across the state, featuring a message promising financial support of ₹2,500 per month under the proposed “Mai-Bahan Maan Yojana” (Mother-Sister Respect Scheme).

Announcing the campaign during a press conference, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar said the party is aiming to reach at least five lakh women across the state in the initial phase. He held up a sample pack bearing the Congress logo and the image of party leader Rahul Gandhi, along with the scheme’s tagline. The packaging promises direct monthly financial assistance for economically disadvantaged women.

“This is not just about health or hygiene,” Kumar said. “This is a message of respect, empowerment, and support to every woman in Bihar who deserves better.”

The campaign is being seen as an attempt to mirror the success of similar welfare-oriented schemes launched in other states, particularly where financial aid for women has played a pivotal role in voter turnout.

In addition to launching the women-focused campaign, Kumar also raised concerns over voter list manipulation. Accusing the Election Commission of bias, he alleged that names of crores of voters could be wrongfully deleted during the ongoing revision process. He urged vigilance and transparency in the electoral roll update.
