The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has issued a clarification regarding a viral video showing passengers jumping over Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at Jama Masjid Metro Station. The incident, which occurred on the evening of February 13, 2025, was attributed to a sudden surge in commuters.

In a statement released on Saturday, DMRC said, "There was a temporary surge of passengers for a brief time when some passengers bypassed the AFC gate by jumping over it to exit. Security personnel and other staff were adequately present to counsel such passengers, and the situation was never out of control. Rather, it was a momentary reaction due to the sudden surge at AFC gates."

The viral video, widely shared on social media, showed chaotic scenes at the metro station, with passengers seen jumping over exit gates. The footage raised concerns about security measures at metro stations. However, DMRC reassured that necessary precautions were in place and that the incident was handled promptly.

The Jama Masjid Metro Station, located on the Magenta Line, experienced an unusual influx of commuters at the time, leading to overcrowding at the exit points. DMRC has urged passengers to follow guidelines and cooperate with metro staff to ensure smooth operations.
