In a strongly worded message aimed at those who often threaten India over its strategically sensitive Siliguri Corridor—popularly referred to as the “Chicken Neck”—Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday pointed out that Bangladesh too has two equally vulnerable corridors of its own.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CM Sarma posted: “To those who habitually threaten India on the 'Chicken Neck Corridor', should note these facts as well: Bangladesh has two of its own 'chicken necks'. Both are far more vulnerable.”

The Siliguri Corridor, or India’s “chicken neck,” is a narrow stretch of land measuring between 22 to 35 km in width. It serves as a crucial link connecting mainland India to its northeastern states.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s geographical fragility, Sarma wrote, “First is the 80 km North Bangladesh Corridor—from Dakhin Dinajpur to South West Garo Hills. Any disruption here can completely isolate the entire Rangpur division from rest of Bangladesh.”

“Second is the 28 km Chittagong Corridor, from South Tripura till the Bay of Bengal. This corridor, smaller than India's chicken neck, is the only link between Bangladesh's economic capital and political capital.”

The Assam CM stressed that his statements were based purely on geographical facts, not political rhetoric.

“I am only presenting geographical facts that some may tend to forget. Just like India's Siliguri Corridor, our neighbouring country is also embedded with two narrow corridors of theirs,” Sarma clarified.

His remarks come amid rising concerns over strategic vulnerabilities and potential external threats to critical transportation and defense corridors in the region.
