A tranquil Saturday evening turned into a scene of chaos as gunshots rang out around 9:30 pm (local time) in the South Carolina beach town of Little River, leaving at least 11 people injured. Authorities confirmed the mass shooting took place near the Intracoastal Waterway, approximately 32 km northeast of Myrtle Beach.
Dozens of police cruisers and ambulances swiftly responded to the scene. The injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals, though the extent of their injuries has not been made public.
The identity of the shooter remains unknown. As of now, "Authorities did not release any information about the suspects," reported The Associated Press. Several disturbing videos and photos from the scene have emerged online, showing emergency vehicles swarming the area and bystanders seeking shelter.
Following the incident, law enforcement cordoned off the area and began a full-scale investigation. Local residents were urged to remain indoors as investigators combed through the crime scene for clues and potential evidence.
The attack in Little River comes on the heels of another tragic shooting earlier this week outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. In that incident, a Chicago resident opened fire, killing two staff members from the Israeli Embassy.
According to The Times of Israel, one of the victims, identified only as Yaron, had recently purchased an engagement ring and planned to propose next week. Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, mourned the loss, saying, “They were a beautiful couple… The young man purchased a ring this week with the intention of proposing in Jerusalem.”
