Don’t Push Punjab Back Into Drugs: Arvind Kejriwal Targets Congress, SAD, BJP Ahead of 2027 Polls

Arvind Kejriwal on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP, accusing previous governments of having “pushed Punjab into drugs” and warning voters against supporting them in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Addressing a state-level programme in Killi Chahlan village in Moga, Kejriwal praised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, highlighting its ongoing anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashian Virudh.

The event was attended by senior party leaders including Manish Sisodia, Punjab Cabinet ministers, MLAs and other functionaries.

“Every Family Was Affected”

In a blistering speech, Kejriwal alleged that when the Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP and Congress were in power, “every family in Punjab was affected by drugs.”

“They destroyed the youth, the families, and the future of Punjab,” he claimed, urging villagers to spread awareness about what he described as the role of these parties in the state’s drug crisis.

He cautioned voters that electing these parties again could push Punjab back into a situation where it “drowns” in drugs.

Punjab is scheduled to go to Assembly polls in 2027.

Anti-Drug Drive Gains Momentum

Kejriwal said that for the first time, a government in Punjab is taking decisive action against drug smugglers by sending them to jail, demolishing their illegal properties and confiscating their assets.

He noted that the anti-drug campaign Yudh Nashian Virudh began on March 1, 2025. Initially, he said, people were hesitant to share information about drug networks due to fear for their families’ safety.

“Last year, the Punjab Police seized 2,000 kg of drugs, destroyed the properties of drug dealers, and arrested major smugglers. People have now started believing that the AAP government is not scared of anything,” he said.

According to Kejriwal, the crackdown has strengthened public trust in both the police and the AAP government, leading to increased community participation in the fight against drugs.
