Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by an accountability court in Islamabad over his involvement in the £190 million land corruption case. His wife, Bushra Bibi, was also convicted and handed a seven-year jail term.

The verdict, delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Adiala Jail, found Khan and Bibi guilty of misusing funds worth PKR 50 billion, which had been returned to Pakistan by the UK's National Crime Agency as part of a settlement with a property tycoon. The funds, meant for the national treasury, were allegedly diverted for personal benefit, including the establishment of Al-Qadir University in Jhelum.

In addition to the prison sentences, the court imposed fines of PKR 1 million on Khan and PKR 0.5 million on Bushra Bibi. Bushra Bibi, who served as a trustee of the Al-Qadir Trust, is accused of acquiring 458 kanals of land as part of the misuse of the settlement funds.

The announcement of the verdict was attended by NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and several lawyers, including Bushra Bibi's legal counsel. Following the judgment, Bushra Bibi was immediately taken into custody, with her cell at Adiala Jail reportedly prepared in advance.

This case is one of many Khan faces following his ouster as prime minister in 2022. His imprisonment since August 2023 has deepened political instability in Pakistan, with ongoing negotiations between the government and PTI aimed at resolving the crisis. So far, three rounds of talks have taken place, with PTI presenting a written charter of demands to the government.
