In a continuing crackdown on Pakistan-linked espionage activities, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a suspected spy from the Kutch border area, intensifying its efforts to dismantle sleeper cells operating within the country.
The accused has been identified as Sahdev Singh Gohil, a multipurpose health worker and resident of Gujarat. He was arrested and brought to Ahmedabad for further interrogation after intelligence inputs indicated his connection with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
According to officials, Gohil was leaking sensitive information, including photos and videos of BSF and Indian Air Force construction sites in Gujarat. The revelation came to light during a preliminary questioning on May 1, when the ATS summoned him based on a tip-off.
“During June and July 2023, Gohil came in contact with a woman identifying herself as Aditi Bharadwaj via WhatsApp. It was later revealed that the woman was a Pakistani agent,” said a senior ATS official. Despite learning her true identity, Gohil allegedly continued to share confidential visuals, acting on her instructions.
In early 2025, Gohil went a step further by purchasing a SIM card using his Aadhaar credentials and activating WhatsApp for the Pakistani handler using an OTP. The number was then used to transmit sensitive material. In return, Gohil received ₹40,000 in cash from an unknown person. His phone has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for digital analysis.
A formal case has been registered, and investigators suspect Gohil may not be acting alone.
Meanwhile, in a related development, YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested on espionage charges, had her police custody extended by four more days by a court on Thursday. The 33-year-old is also under investigation for possible links to foreign intelligence operatives.
