Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Gujarat causing widespread waterlogging and flooding in Tharad (Banaskantha district) and Navsari city, severely disrupting transportation and daily activities.
In Banaskantha, early morning showers triggered flooding across the newly constructed four-lane highway and main roads near disaster-sensitive areas. Several key stretches, including the route from Tharad crossroads to Dag Seat Centre, were submerged under water. Commuters faced major difficulties, with many vehicles stalled and traffic moving at a crawl. The sudden flooding has once again raised serious concerns about the quality of construction and the planning behind such infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, in Navsari, areas such as Mankodia, Dhanera Point, and Station Road reported significant water accumulation following intense rainfall. Drainage systems failed to cope, leading to rising water levels in market areas, roads, and residential zones.
Across both districts, public movement was hampered, with multiple two-wheelers and cars stranded in waterlogged streets. Many local shops remained closed, and emergency teams had to be deployed to restore some level of normalcy. Commuters and residents criticized the lack of preparation by local authorities, especially since the monsoon had already been forecast well in advance.
