The political crisis within the Aam Aadmi Party deepened further on Friday after senior leader Atishi made a sensational claim that party MP Raghav Chadha could soon switch sides and join the BJP.
Addressing the media, Atishi accused Chadha of avoiding key political battles and failing to support the opposition on critical national issues. She said that at a time when opposition parties are raising concerns over democracy and electoral integrity, Chadha has remained silent on major developments.
She pointed out that during a recent move by opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress, to bring an impeachment motion, Chadha allegedly refused to sign it and did not participate in coordinated protests inside Parliament.
Atishi also claimed that when the party asked him to raise pressing issues like the rising LPG crisis affecting common citizens, he chose not to speak. She alleged that Chadha appeared hesitant to criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership.
“Many opposition leaders have come under pressure and eventually joined the BJP. Raghav Chadha could be next,” she said, triggering a major political debate.
Her remarks came amid an escalating confrontation between Chadha and the party leadership. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had also taken a strong stand, calling Chadha “compromised” and accusing him of not following the party line in Parliament.
The controversy began after the party removed Chadha from the post of Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha and reportedly sought to restrict his speaking time in the House.
Reacting to the move, Chadha released a video message accusing the party of trying to silence him. He defended his record, saying he has always raised issues concerning the public and questioned whether speaking for citizens should invite punishment.
The ongoing war of words has exposed serious internal cracks within AAP, with leaders openly questioning each other’s loyalty and political stance.
