Congress Overseas Chief Sam Pitroda has ignited a fresh political storm with his remarks on India’s foreign relations, stating, “I’ve been to Pakistan and I must tell you, I felt at home.” The statement quickly drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused the Congress of being soft on Pakistan and questioned the party’s approach to national security.
Pitroda made the comments while discussing India’s ties with its neighbouring countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. He highlighted cultural similarities and a “common gene pool” as reasons for closer relations, while also acknowledging challenges such as terrorism and violence. He urged a focus on peace and harmony, stressing the need for stronger diplomatic engagement in South Asia.
Reacting swiftly, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari attacked Pitroda’s remarks on social media, writing, “Rahul Gandhi’s blue-eyed boy & Congress Overseas chief Sam Pitroda says he ‘felt at home’ in Pakistan. No wonder UPA took no tough action against Pak even after 26/11. Pakistan’s favourite, Congress’s chosen!”
