Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a bold declaration that India would be entirely free from the menace of Naxalism by March 31, 2026, while lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisive leadership on matters of national security.
Addressing a rally in Thiruvananthapuram, Shah said, “Only Prime Minister Modi and the BJP can end terrorism. India will be completely free of Naxalism by 31 March, 2026.” He added that under the current government, the country had seen unprecedented retaliation against hostile forces — citing surgical and air strikes as examples.
"We responded to the Uri attack with a surgical strike, to the Pulwama attack with an air strike. And during 'Operation Sindoor', we entered their homes and eliminated them. This is how terrorism should be answered,” Shah declared, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
The Union Minister’s strong remarks come amidst national debates around internal security, especially with the passage of Maharashtra’s controversial Special Public Security Bill, 2024, which critics argue could be used to stifle dissent. Shah’s comments seem aimed at reinforcing the BJP’s image as a party tough on terrorism and internal threats ahead of several upcoming state elections.
