A dramatic escalation in rhetoric has emerged in the ongoing Middle East conflict after Donald Trump claimed that Iran is “begging” to strike a deal with the United States, even as Tehran has officially rejected Washington’s proposed peace framework.
Taking to his social media platform, Trump criticised Iranian negotiators and warned them to act quickly, stating that the situation could soon reach a point of no return. His remarks came just a day after Iran dismissed a 15-point proposal put forward by the United States to end the war.
The US proposal reportedly included sweeping demands such as dismantling Iran’s nuclear programme, restricting its missile capabilities, and handing over effective control of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. These conditions were seen as highly stringent and were not accepted by Tehran.
In response, Iran outlined its own set of conditions for ending the conflict, making it clear that any resolution would depend on its terms. Iranian state media indicated that Tehran is not under pressure to accept the US proposal and will decide the course of the war independently.
Among Iran’s key demands are a complete halt to what it describes as aggression and targeted attacks, along with concrete guarantees that such actions will not be repeated in the future. It has also called for compensation for war damages and a comprehensive end to hostilities across all fronts involving allied groups in the region.
Another major demand includes international recognition of Iran’s sovereign authority over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.
The sharp exchange of statements highlights the deep divide between the two sides, with both maintaining firm positions and showing little immediate sign of compromise.
