As the political battle lines for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections become clearer, tensions within the opposition front have escalated. The Janata Dal (United), aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar, has strongly reacted to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) declaration to contest all 243 Assembly seats independently. The JD(U) is now directly positioning itself against both AAP and RJD in the upcoming elections.

Reacting to AAP’s decision, JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan said the move has exposed the deep fractures in the opposition alliance known as INDI (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance).

“With AAP’s decision to contest all 243 seats in Bihar, a major crack within the Mahagathbandhan has become clearly visible. It’s evident that this alliance was already on shaky ground and was preparing to face a tougher situation than even in 2010. Now, AAP has made it clear that the INDI alliance was formed for the Lok Sabha elections and when it comes to Assembly elections, they are independent and will contest separately,” Ranjan said in a pointed statement.

The JD(U), which broke ties with the RJD-led alliance last year and rejoined the NDA under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sharpened its attacks on its former allies. The party now accuses AAP and RJD of playing double games — projecting unity nationally while splintering on the state level.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s decision has rattled the Mahagathbandhan, especially as it sends signals of disintegration in the opposition camp. Meanwhile, JD(U) is working closely with the BJP to build a comprehensive seat-sharing and campaign strategy to counter the combined threat of regional players.
