Political Career
Jyotika Lathiya began her political journey with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and successfully contested the 2021 municipal elections from Ward 8 (Dabholi–Singanpor area) in Surat. She was among the candidates who helped AAP make a significant breakthrough in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), marking the party's entry into Gujarat’s local governance structure.
However, in February 2022, she, along with four other AAP corporators—Bhavna Solanki, Ruta Kakadiya, Manisha Kukadiya, and Vipul Movaliya—formally defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The switch took place at a formal ceremony in Gandhinagar in the presence of top BJP state leaders, reflecting a strategic political shift and re-alignment of local power dynamics.
Party Position
As of now, she is not known to occupy any official leadership post within the BJP. Her role remains confined to that of a corporator in the Surat Municipal Corporation, representing Ward 8.

Corporator Jyotika Lathiya revealed that she and other corporators were feeling ignored within the Aam Aadmi Party. According to her, the party's leadership, particularly the opposition leader in the Surat Municipal Corporation, was not responding to their concerns or supporting their work.
Work Obstruction in the Ward
She stated that despite being elected representatives, they were unable to deliver results to their constituents. The party was allegedly not cooperating in addressing public issues, leading to dissatisfaction among voters in their wards.
Feeling of Political Bondage
In a statement given to ETV Bharat, Jyotika Lathiya mentioned that the corporators felt like they were being kept in “bondage” by the party. This sense of restriction and lack of autonomy further contributed to their decision to quit AAP.
Shift to BJP for Development

Defection from AAP to BJP (February 2022)
Jyotika Lathiya, along with four other AAP corporators from Surat, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in a ceremony in Gandhinagar.
