As Maharashtra prepares to usher in its next government following the resounding victory of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the 2024 Assembly elections, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has quelled speculation regarding the chief ministerial face. Speaking to the media, Fadnavis said, ?There will be no dispute on the CM's face. It was decided from day one that after the elections, the leaders of the three parties will sit together and decide on this. The decision will be acceptable to everyone, there is no dispute on this.?

This assurance underscores the unity within the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar. The coalition has demonstrated a united front throughout the campaign, leveraging its collective strength to secure a landslide victory.

The elections, held across 288 constituencies, saw a massive turnout and fierce competition. A total of 4,136 candidates contested, including 2,086 independents. The BJP fielded 149 candidates, while the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) contested 81 and 59 seats, respectively.

The opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar, put up a spirited fight but struggled to match the Mahayuti's momentum. Congress contested 101 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) 95, and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) 86. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), aiming to expand its foothold in the state, contested an ambitious 237 seats.

The Mahayuti's thumping win has paved the way for its leadership to chart the state?s course over the next five years. As celebrations continue, all eyes are now on the decision of the alliance leaders regarding the chief ministerial position. Political analysts suggest that the collaborative decision-making process emphasized by Fadnavis could serve as a stabilizing factor for the coalition government.
