Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, while addressing the Maharashtra Assembly Budget Session, reaffirmed the state government's commitment to resolving the long-standing Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute through legal means. He announced that expert advocates have been appointed to represent Maharashtra in the Supreme Court, ensuring the state's interests are strongly defended.

Government’s Focus on Border Welfare

Beyond the legal battle, the Governor emphasized the government's proactive steps to support Marathi-speaking residents in the disputed border areas.

“Our government is implementing educational, healthcare, and various other welfare schemes for the Marathi-speaking people in border areas,” Radhakrishnan stated.

The move aims to strengthen Maharashtra's claim over the Belagavi (Belgaum), Karwar, and Nippani regions, where a significant Marathi-speaking population resides.

A Renewed Push for Resolution

The Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute, which dates back to 1960, has remained a politically sensitive issue. The Maharashtra government has consistently pushed for the reunification of Marathi-speaking areas, while Karnataka has refused to cede any territory.
