Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which left 26 dead, including six residents of Maharashtra. In a statement on Tuesday, Fadnavis assured support to the victims' families and expressed confidence in the central government's commitment to take swift and stern action against the perpetrators.
"This was a highly condemnable attack, and I have full faith that the Prime Minister will track down the masterminds and crush such intentions, as he has done before," said Fadnavis while addressing the media in Mumbai.
The cowardly attack took place in the bustling tourist region of Pahalgam on Tuesday, targeting a group of tourists and local civilians. The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the massacre.
Fadnavis confirmed that six of the victims hailed from Maharashtra, with some from Mumbai and Pune. “In Maharashtra, six people lost their lives, and we will provide ₹5 lakh to each of their families,” he said, offering financial assistance as an immediate relief measure.
The state government has also deployed senior ministers to coordinate with the Union Territory’s administration for the safe return of stranded tourists and ensure dignified repatriation of the mortal remains.
“We are in constant touch with the central government and Jammu and Kashmir authorities. Ministers Ashish Shelar and Mangal Prabhat Lodha will receive the bodies in Mumbai, while Madhuri Misal will be at Pune airport. Girish Mahajan has already reached Srinagar to assist families and tourists,” the CM added.
