Maharashtra has been witnessing the deadly impact of the ongoing monsoon, with 18 people losing their lives and 65 others sustaining injuries in rain-related incidents since June 1, according to an official report released by the State Disaster Management Authority on Monday.

The deaths were caused by a range of incidents triggered by heavy rainfall — including road accidents, falls from bridges, drowning, lightning strikes, and even fire-related accidents.

The report further noted the loss of livestock, stating that six cattle deaths were also reported during this period.

“Eighteen persons have died in rain-related incidents in the state since June 1,” confirmed the authority in its latest bulletin.

The south-west monsoon has been actively sweeping across the state, with the past 24 hours bringing intense showers that led to water-logging in several low-lying areas and disrupted normal life.
