In the aftermath of a devastating train accident involving the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district, which tragically claimed four lives and left several others injured, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Kharge has demanded that both leaders take direct responsibility for what he describes as severe lapses in rail safety under their watch.

"The derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in UP is yet another instance of how the Modi government has systematically jeopardized rail safety," Kharge stated in a statement released on social media.

Kharge highlighted previous incidents, including a recent collision between a goods train and the Sealdah–Agartala Kanchanjunga Express, which resulted in 11 fatalities. He referenced findings from the Commissioner of Railway Safety, who characterized the accident as 'waiting to happen,' attributing it to failures in automatic signals, operational mismanagement, and the absence of critical safety equipment like walkie-talkies for train personnel.

"PM Narendra Modi and his Railway Minister, who spare no effort for self-publicity, must bear direct responsibility for the serious safety failures plaguing Indian Railways," Kharge asserted.

Demanding immediate action, Kharge called for the swift implementation of the Kavach anti-collision system across all railway routes in India to enhance safety measures and prevent future accidents.
