Mamata Banerjee Shielding Bangladeshi Rohingyas, Turning Them Into Voters: BJP MP Jagdambika Pal Sparks Row

Senior BJP MP Jagdambika Pal on Monday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of “openly protecting” Bangladeshi Rohingyas and facilitating their inclusion in the voter list. He warned that such actions are not only illegal but also pose a threat to the internal security and demographic balance of the country.

"A large number of Bangladeshi Rohingyas have entered West Bengal, and the central government has repeatedly said they should be deported because it is the citizens of India who have rights over the country’s resources, not Bangladeshis," Pal said while speaking to the media.

He alleged that despite the Centre’s clear directive on the deportation of illegal immigrants, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress government is “not just ignoring the warnings but going a step further by turning them into voters.”

“It is natural that it will lead to violence,” the BJP leader stated, referring to the rising tensions and incidents of unrest reported from various districts of West Bengal.

The remarks come in the wake of ongoing political friction between the BJP-led central government and the TMC-ruled West Bengal, especially over issues related to law and order, illegal immigration, and alleged appeasement politics.

Earlier too, Union Home Ministry had flagged concerns about the illegal infiltration of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, especially in border districts like North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, and Malda. However, the West Bengal government has consistently denied such accusations, accusing the BJP of communalising the issue for electoral gains.
