In a chilling incident that has raised serious concerns over the safety of public officials, Ranchi Police on Monday detained a man accused of threatening to kill Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth. The incident unfolded after the minister received a menacing phone call followed by a threatening message, prompting immediate action from both local and central security agencies.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Chandan Kumar Sinha, the accused was apprehended within hours of the threat being reported and is currently being interrogated by a specially formed investigation team. “The matter is being taken very seriously. The suspect is in custody and being questioned in detail,” said DIG Sinha.

The call, reportedly made late Sunday night, was laced with violent threats and disturbing claims. The accused, allegedly intoxicated during the call, claimed to have already murdered several individuals and ominously warned that the minister would be his next target. Moments after the call, a follow-up text message reiterated the threat, stating the minister would be shot.

Union Minister Sanjay Seth, who hails from Jharkhand and serves in the Defence Ministry, wasted no time in informing both Ranchi and Delhi Police. An emergency team was immediately constituted, and a coordinated manhunt led to the detention of the suspect.

Reports within the police department revealed that the man has a record of making threats under the influence of alcohol. However, this is the first time he has issued such a grave threat to a high-ranking government official. The nature of the threat and its potential implications on national security have prompted law enforcement to take no chances.
