Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has struck back at the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress for their sharp criticism of her recent comments praising the Yogi Adityanath government. Speaking at a meeting of party officials and workers in Lucknow, Mayawati accused both opposition parties of “lacking political honesty and courage,” alleging that their reactions stemmed from “malice and insecurity.”

Clarifying her earlier remarks from the October 9 rally, Mayawati said her words were merely an acknowledgment of the state government’s cooperation in maintaining monuments and parks built during the BSP’s regime. “The Yogi government responded positively to my request to maintain these structures through ticket revenue. Expressing gratitude for this does not mean political alignment,” she asserted.

The BSP supremo also dismissed allegations that government buses were used to ferry supporters to her rally, calling them “completely baseless.” “Our supporters came from across the state using their own resources — by private buses and trains. No government vehicles were used,” she clarified.

Both the SP and Congress had accused Mayawati of being “soft” on the BJP, interpreting her comments as a sign of tacit understanding with the ruling party. Congress leaders even questioned her “silence on issues concerning Dalits.”

Mayawati rejected these accusations, labeling them “politically motivated,” and urged BSP workers to stay vigilant against what she called “misinformation campaigns.” She reiterated the party’s core values, saying, “We follow the path of self-respect and truth. These fabricated allegations cannot weaken BSP’s commitment to people’s welfare.”
