After the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to all political parties, including the Opposition, to ensure the unanimous election of CP Radhakrishnan as the next Vice President of India.
Rijiju said the meeting formally introduced CP Radhakrishnan as the NDA’s candidate, where floor leaders and MPs warmly welcomed him. “CP Radhakrishnan ji was congratulated by everyone and thanked the Prime Minister. His introduction was made by PM Modi himself, who appealed to all parties to support the NDA’s candidate unanimously,” Rijiju noted.
According to him, Modi underlined Radhakrishnan’s long public service record and unblemished reputation. “There is no controversy in his life, no corruption, no stain. He has lived a very simple life and has always worked for the society and the country. If such a person becomes the Vice President, it will be a matter of great pride for the entire nation,” Rijiju quoted the Prime Minister as saying.
The Union Minister further added that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is already reaching out to leaders across the political spectrum in a bid to secure cross-party consensus. “We want all parties to support CP Radhakrishnan unanimously in the Vice Presidential election. This will not only strengthen our democracy but also help in the smooth functioning of the Rajya Sabha,” he said.
The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with nominations closing on August 21. With the NDA already commanding a comfortable majority, Radhakrishnan’s victory appears assured.
