Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, during a public meeting in Chenani, Jammu and Kashmir, launched a scathing attack on the region?s political dynasties, accusing them of fostering corruption and nepotism. Shah stated, "The three families have given tickets to their own people and made only 87 MLAs. But we made more than 30,000 Panch, Sarpanch, and Tehsil Panchayat members." He emphasized the BJP-led government's commitment to decentralizing power and ensuring grassroots representation.
Shah alleged that these influential families?referring to the Abdullahs, Muftis, and Gandhis?had monopolized political control in the region. ?The river of corruption that they started was cleaned by Prime Minister Modi from the bottom,? he said, crediting the Prime Minister for restoring transparency and accountability in J&K.
Highlighting the BJP?s efforts to empower local governance, Shah pointed out the significant increase in the number of elected representatives at the grassroots level under the Modi administration. ?We have enabled more than 30,000 Panch, Sarpanch, and Tehsil Panchayat members, giving a voice to the common people in Jammu and Kashmir,? he added.
The Union Minister's remarks come at a crucial time as the region prepares for upcoming elections, with the BJP aiming to consolidate its presence in the erstwhile state. Shah's speech in Chenani reflects the party's strategy to position itself as a champion of anti-corruption and inclusive development, contrasting sharply with what he described as the dynastic politics of the past.
He also emphasized the various development initiatives undertaken in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, aiming to portray the Modi government as a harbinger of change and progress in the region. ?We are not here to distribute tickets to relatives. We are here to uplift every single citizen of Jammu and Kashmir,? Shah asserted.
