Mumbai Police have heightened security measures across the city after a bomb threat message was received on the official WhatsApp number of the traffic police on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi.
According to police sources, the anonymous message made alarming claims, stating that 34 vehicles carrying human bombs had been planted at different locations in Mumbai. The sender, identifying with the name “Lashkar-e-Jihadi,” alleged that 14 Pakistani terrorists had already entered the city. The message further warned that 400 kilograms of RDX would be used in the blasts, with a chilling claim that the explosions could kill “up to one crore people.”
Given the sensitive timing of the festival season, police officials are not taking the threat lightly. Units from the cyber cell, anti-terrorism squad (ATS), and bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS) have been deployed to trace the origin of the message and to step up surveillance.
A senior Mumbai Police officer said, “We are investigating the source of the WhatsApp message and verifying its authenticity. Citizens are requested to remain calm and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
Security checks have been intensified at major junctions, railway stations, religious procession routes, and crowded marketplaces. Additional personnel have been deployed to monitor Ganesh Visarjan processions, which draw massive public gatherings across the city.
