Amid growing panic over a possible fuel shortage and lockdown-like restrictions, the government has issued a strong clarification, putting an end to speculation that had begun circulating widely across the country.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made it clear that there is absolutely no plan to impose any lockdown in India, dismissing such reports as baseless and misleading. Her statement comes at a time when social media and political comments had triggered confusion among citizens regarding fuel availability and possible restrictions.
The clarification was backed by Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who also strongly rejected claims of any lockdown or fuel shortage. The government has urged people not to believe rumours and maintain calm, stressing that the situation is under control.
The concern had escalated due to rising global crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions, especially in West Asia. With international oil rates shooting up sharply, many countries have already witnessed major fuel price hikes.
