Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has strongly endorsed the recently passed Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament, calling it a much-needed reform to address longstanding issues with Waqf properties and their misuse.

Sharing his personal experience, Governor Khan said, "…When I served as a minister in UP, I handled the Waqf department for some time. All the time, I had to meet people who had property cases going on… Waqf properties were there for the welfare of the people… There are many Waqf properties in Patna, but name any one hospital or orphanage under Waqf in Patna. Only cases are being made there… It needed a lot of improvement. And this Waqf Amendment Bill is a step in this direction."

His remarks underline the chronic mismanagement and litigations surrounding Waqf properties, which were originally meant to serve public welfare, including building schools, hospitals, and orphanages. Instead, many of these properties have reportedly been entangled in property disputes and underutilized.

Governor Khan's statement adds to the growing chorus of support from leaders and lawmakers who see the Waqf Amendment Bill as a crucial step towards transparency and better governance in the management of Waqf assets.
