Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday raised serious concerns over the availability of hospital beds in the national capital, revealing that the bed-to-population ratio in government facilities stands at just 0.42 per person.

“If I combine central government, Delhi government, and private sector facilities, the ratio comes to only 0.5 — that is, half a bed per person,” Gupta told reporters, stressing the need for urgent expansion of healthcare infrastructure to meet the growing demands of the city.

Speaking at an event to mark National Doctors’ Day, Gupta also expressed deep appreciation for the medical community, saying their dedication and selflessness deserved the highest gratitude.

“Many times, we feel that certain things from abroad are better, but in our culture, every day is like Mother’s Day. We don’t need a special day to celebrate,” she said. “Similarly, today is a special day for doctors, and I would like to offer you heartfelt congratulations, respect, best wishes, and gratitude.”
