After days of gridlock and repeated adjournments, Parliament’s Monsoon Session is set for a dramatic turnaround starting Monday, with an intense, all-out debate on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent counter-terrorism mission, Operation Sindoor. The upcoming proceedings are being billed as a defining moment in this session, with both the ruling NDA and the INDIA bloc preparing for a no-holds-barred political face-off.

According to parliamentary sources, the government has lined up a high-profile response team comprising Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who will lead the discussions in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. While it is rare, there are strong indications that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may personally address the House to emphasize the government’s “decisive and uncompromising” position on national security.

From the Opposition’s side, the Congress has appointed Rahul Gandhi to lead the charge in the Lok Sabha, while party president Mallikarjun Kharge will counter the government in the Rajya Sabha. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, along with other key Opposition MPs including TMC's Mahua Moitra and DMK’s Kanimozhi, are expected to deliver sharp critiques of the government’s strategy, especially around intelligence lapses and diplomatic handling.

This high-stakes debate follows a week-long washout of parliamentary business, as Opposition members staged repeated protests over issues ranging from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar to alleged misuse of investigative agencies. The agreement to hold this structured debate was finalised on July 25, after intense behind-the-scenes negotiations led by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
