FIR Registered Against SP MP Amid BJP Protests
A fresh political confrontation has broken out in Uttar Pradesh after Samajwadi Party MP Ajendra Singh Lodhi allegedly made objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public protest in Mahoba district, triggering outrage from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and leading to police action.
According to officials, a case has been registered against the MP under multiple legal provisions following complaints submitted by BJP leaders and workers. Police said an investigation has been initiated and further action will depend on evidence collected during the probe.
Protest Over Local Issues Turns Into Political Controversy
The controversy emerged after Samajwadi Party workers organised a demonstration at the Mahoba district collectorate on Monday over civic and governance-related issues including electricity cuts, water shortage, smart meter complaints and alleged irregularities in crop insurance schemes.
During his speech to party supporters and while speaking to reporters, Lodhi allegedly used controversial and unparliamentary language against the Prime Minister, sparking immediate backlash from BJP leaders who accused him of insulting the constitutional office of the Prime Minister.
Soon after videos of the remarks circulated on social media platforms, BJP workers staged protests at Alha Chowk in Mahoba, raised slogans against the Samajwadi Party and burned effigies of the MP while demanding strict legal action.
BJP Leaders Demand Strict Action
Local BJP leaders condemned the remarks and submitted formal complaints to the administration, alleging that the statements crossed the limits of democratic political discourse.
The incident quickly escalated into a major political issue in the district, with tensions rising between workers of both parties. Police and administrative officials increased monitoring in sensitive areas to prevent any confrontation between rival groups.
Lodhi Attacks Government Over Multiple Issues
Apart from the controversial remarks, Lodhi also targeted both the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government over several public concerns during the protest. He alleged irregularities in smart electricity meters and claimed that meters continued functioning even during power cuts.
The SP MP further accused authorities of corruption in crop insurance schemes and raised concerns regarding school closures and the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He also referred to the political situation in West Bengal while asserting that the Samajwadi Party would come to power in Uttar Pradesh in the 2027 Assembly elections.
“We Are Not Afraid,” Says SP MP
Despite the political backlash and the registration of the police case, Lodhi remained defiant and defended his stand while reacting to BJP protests.
“If BJP leaders want to file cases, they can do so. We are not afraid,” he told reporters, adding that he would continue speaking what he described as “the truth.”
