Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the renaming of Jalandhar's Adampur Airport after Guru Ravidas. The Adampur airport, which serves Punjab?s Doaba region, recently saw the virtual inauguration of its new terminal by Modi on March 10. During an election rally in Hoshiarpur on May 30, Modi expressed his wish for the airport to bear the name of the 15th-century spiritual sage Guru Ravidas, highlighting the importance of welfare for the poor and drawing inspiration from Guru Ravidas.
In his letter, Jakhar congratulated Modi on his third term as Prime Minister and took the opportunity to address two issues with deep emotional and spiritual significance for the people. He emphasized that renaming Adampur Airport after Guru Ravidas would reflect the ethos of spirituality and diversity that binds India. This renaming has also been a long-standing demand from the people of Punjab.
Jakhar further suggested that the ongoing reconstruction and remodeling of the Guru Ravidas temple in Tughlakabad, Delhi, should be complemented by developing the surrounding area into a serene garden, or "Vatika." He proposed that this would be a fitting tribute to Guru Ravidas and a demonstration of Modi's commitment to upholding the tenets of all faiths.
Jakhar's appeal aligns with Modi's earlier remarks, reinforcing the spiritual and cultural importance of Guru Ravidas and emphasizing the government's dedication to the welfare and unity of diverse communities in India.
