In a big change welcomed by passengers, the Railway Board has decided to increase the number of waiting list tickets allowed on trains. This comes after people complained about not getting tickets due to strict limits put in place earlier.
Earlier, the Railways had capped waiting list tickets to only 25% of available capacity across all classes. Many passengers were upset as it made it much harder to book tickets, especially during busy travel seasons.
Now, as per a new order dated June 28, the Railways will allow up to 60% waiting list tickets for air-conditioned (AC) classes and 30% for non-AC classes, including tickets sold at starting stations and roadside stations.
Officials said this change was made after listening to passengers’ feedback and to make sure more people can get tickets if their preferred train is full.
There is also a special rule for remote locations where there are no fixed berths. In those places, the waiting list will be adjusted based on how many people usually travel from that area, so everyone gets a fair chance.
However, the new waiting list limits will not apply to tickets given at concessional rates or for government travel, so senior citizens, defence personnel, and other groups will still get priority.
