In a significant move to tackle malnutrition and promote maternal health, the Rajasthan government has launched a scheme to provide 'Suposhan Nutri Kits' to pregnant women registered with Anganwadi centres across the state. The initiative, announced in the state’s 2025 budget, will benefit 2.35 lakh women in the first phase and is being implemented by the Women and Child Development Department.
Each Nutri Kit, designed to meet the nutritional needs of expectant mothers, includes 1 kg Desi Ghee, 500 gm Dates, Makhana or other dry fruits, Jaggery, Roasted Gram, and Peanuts. The contents have been curated based on UNICEF guidelines, ensuring that they offer a balanced combination of proteins, vitamins, and other essential nutrients.
Director of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), OP Bunkar, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “The Nutri Kit has been prepared as per the UNICEF guidelines and has all the proteins, vitamins, and essential nutrients necessary for the pregnant women. It will not only improve their health but will also help in the physical and mental development of the child.”
Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive two Nutri Kits—one during the fourth month of pregnancy and the second in the ninth month. This timely nutritional intervention is expected to support better maternal health outcomes and reduce the risk of undernourishment among newborns.
