Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has strongly criticized the BJP-led NDA government over the ongoing unrest in Manipur, questioning its legitimacy in forming a government amid continued violence and instability.
Speaking on Thursday, Wadettiwar said, "When the situation is not improving even after imposition of President's Rule (in Manipur), then what right do these (BJP-NDA) people have to form a government there?" He emphasized that the top priority must be restoring peace and stability in the violence-hit state.
He added, "Our demand will be – first to bring normalcy and then conduct elections." The Congress leader's remarks come at a time when fresh reports of ethnic violence, displacement, and a fragile law and order situation continue to emerge from Manipur, which has been reeling under turmoil for over a year.
