The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the Calcutta High Court that the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital on August 9 was not a case of gangrape. The revelation was made during a hearing before Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, where the central agency stated that their current focus is on individuals who attempted to cover up the crime.
When questioned about the timeline for completing the investigation, the CBI’s representative, DSG, stated that no specific timeframe could be provided as multiple aspects of the case are still under investigation. The High Court has directed the agency to submit a list of witnesses examined so far and the case diary received from the Kolkata Police when the CBI took over the probe. Additionally, the agency has been asked to highlight any challenges they are facing in their investigation.
Meanwhile, the CBI has submitted a status report at the Sealdah Court detailing the progress of their probe.
