Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Tuesday reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to aviation safety, especially in challenging and hilly terrains, stating, “Safety is the topmost priority.” His comments come amid increased focus on improving flight operations and infrastructure in difficult geographic zones, which often face unpredictable weather and signal-related issues.
Naidu emphasized that while Indian civil aviation has always prioritized security, the government is now preparing to introduce advanced technologies and enhanced air traffic management systems tailored for regions where weather changes rapidly and infrastructure remains limited. He highlighted the need for “innovative solutions” to overcome difficulties faced by pilots in such conditions.
"We are working to improve surveillance, introduce better processing of weather data, and expand air traffic control capacity where signals are weak due to terrain. Sudden weather changes have caused incidents in the past, so we are focused on preventing those risks," he said.
The minister stated that over the next two to three months, these upgrades will be systematically implemented. By September, the ministry aims to roll out key improvements that will significantly enhance flight safety and operational reliability in high-risk zones.
