Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that he was repeatedly being denied the opportunity to speak in the Lok Sabha, accusing Speaker Om Birla of running the House in a "non-democratic style."
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi claimed that the Speaker made "unsubstantiated" remarks about him and abruptly adjourned the House before allowing him to respond.
"The Speaker just got up and left. He did not allow me to speak a word. He spoke about me, but when I asked for a chance to reply, he adjourned the House without reason," Gandhi said.
Congress MPs, including Gaurav Gogoi, KC Venugopal, and Manickam Tagore, later met the Speaker, protesting what they called a "deliberate suppression" of the opposition's voice.

Gandhi further alleged that he has not been allowed to speak in the House for the last 7-8 days. "Every time I stand up, I am denied the floor. How is this House being run? The opposition has no place here," he said.
The Congress leader also pointed out that he had attempted to speak on the Maha Kumbh Mela and unemployment after PM Narendra Modi's remarks but was ignored.
Speaker Om Birla, in his statement, reminded members to uphold the dignity of the House, stating, "It is expected of the Leader of the Opposition to conduct himself as per the rules."
