Supreme Court Voices Serious Concern Over Rising Child Trafficking, Directs Delhi Police To Take Action

In a strong stance against the escalating menace of child trafficking in India, the Supreme Court has expressed grave concern over the worsening situation and called for immediate action by the Delhi Police. While hearing a case related to the abduction of newborn babies, the court directed the police to take all necessary steps to locate the missing infants and bring the responsible traffickers to justice.

The court questioned the police on the measures they have taken so far to investigate the growing issue of gangs involved in abducting and selling newborns, both within Delhi and outside the city. In a stern direction, the Supreme Court gave the Delhi Police four weeks to identify and locate the gang leaders responsible for trafficking children and the infants who have been kidnapped.

“They (child trafficking gangs) are big, big threats to society. Sale and purchase (of kids) is absolutely a no. You don’t know where they land up. If it’s a girl child, you know where she will land up. It’s a very serious situation,” the bench remarked, emphasizing the gravity of the issue.

The court’s remarks shed light on the devastating consequences of child trafficking, where vulnerable infants are often trafficked for illegal adoptions, forced labor, or exploitation. The Supreme Court underlined the urgency of cracking down on these criminal networks that prey on vulnerable families.

The Delhi Police, which has been under increasing scrutiny, has been tasked with expediting its investigation into the trafficking gangs operating in the region. They are to provide the court with an update on their progress within the given timeframe.
