In a sharp critique of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has raised serious concerns about the intentions and execution of the exercise, calling it a "threat to democracy."
Speaking to reporters, Yadav clarified that his party is not opposed to the SIR exercise itself, but the manner in which it is being implemented has triggered alarm. “We have no problem with the Special Intensive Review (SIR) exercise, but the manner in which this exercise is being conducted is dangerous for democracy,” he said.
The RJD leader accused the state machinery of targeted deletions of names from the electoral rolls, particularly in constituencies dominated by marginalized communities. He alleged that the review process was being carried out with partisan motives, potentially undermining the fairness of upcoming elections.
“We cannot see democracy ending... We will fight against it on every platform,” Tejashwi declared, stating that the RJD is taking the issue to national attention. “We are writing letters to all the big leaders of the country and will attend the INDIA alliance meeting to be held at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on the 19th,” he added.
