Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a fierce attack on the BJP government over the tragic death of a female student in Odisha’s Balasore district, calling it a result of a "broken and oppressive system." In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi alleged that the student, who had raised her voice against sexual harassment, was repeatedly threatened, harassed, and humiliated instead of being protected or given justice.
He wrote, “The death of a daughter fighting for justice in Odisha is not suicide – it is murder by the BJP system. The brave student spoke out against sexual harassment – but instead of being protected, she was threatened, tortured, and insulted repeatedly. Those meant to protect her were the ones who kept breaking her.”
He further alleged that the system was bent on shielding the accused and failed to deliver justice, ultimately forcing the girl to take the extreme step of self-immolation. “Once again, BJP’s system worked to protect the accused – and pushed an innocent daughter to set herself on fire. This is not suicide, but an organized murder by the system,” Gandhi added.
Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly, he said, “Whether it’s Odisha or Manipur, India’s daughters are burning, breaking, and dying. And you remain silent. The country doesn’t need your silence, it needs answers. India’s daughters need safety and justice.”
Responding sharply to Rahul Gandhi’s post, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan condemned the Congress leader for politicizing a sensitive issue. “Cheap politics played by Rahul Gandhi and Congress on the tragic incident involving Odisha’s daughter is extremely unfortunate. Turning a serious and sensitive matter into a political weapon reflects Rahul Gandhi’s petty mindset,” said Pradhan.
