In a heartbreaking incident, a toddler who fell into a 45-50 feet deep borewell in Surgapara village, Amreli, was declared dead after a 15-hour-long rescue operation on Saturday morning.

The rescue operation, which involved personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Amreli fire team, and the 108 ambulance service, commenced on Friday afternoon at 12:30 PM and continued tirelessly through the night. The child was finally pulled out at 5:10 AM and immediately transported to Amreli Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.

Fire Officer HC Gadhvi confirmed the tragic outcome: "The child was pulled out from the borewell at 5:10 AM and taken to the Amreli Civil Hospital where she was declared brought dead."

This incident has prompted renewed calls for vigilance and action regarding open borewells across the state. Union Minister of State Praful Pansheriya urged the public to report any open borewells to prevent such tragedies. "I request everyone in Gujarat that if you can't close the borewells, please inform us. If you can't do it, please drop us a message or send us a letter? I will work for humanity," Pansheriya stated in an interview with ANI.

Pansheriya highlighted a previous incident in Dwarka four months ago, where similar dangers were averted. "At that time, I appealed to the teachers and we closed around 35-40 borewells. The Chief Minister has also issued a letter regarding the open borewells," he added.

The incident in Gujarat follows another similar case in Rajasthan's Alwar district, where a five-year-old child fell into a 40-foot deep borewell but was successfully rescued. Tragically, in April, a six-year-old boy in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district fell into an open borewell and, despite a 45-hour-long rescue operation, could not be saved.
