Trump Announces $1,776 ‘Warrior Dividend’ For US Troops Before Christmas, Cites Tariff Revenue

US President Donald Trump has announced a one-time cash payment for American military personnel, calling it a “warrior dividend” to recognise the service and sacrifices of the armed forces. The payment, set at $1,776 per person, is expected to be credited before Christmas and will reach more than 1.45 million service members.

Explaining the figure, Trump said the amount symbolises the year 1776, when the United States declared independence. He described the payout as a gesture of respect for soldiers and their families and said the money was being released at a time when many households face financial pressure during the holiday season.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday (local time), the President said the special payment was made possible by higher government revenue, which he linked to tariffs and the passage of a major spending bill. According to Trump, the funds had already been approved and the payment process had begun.

Under the eligibility rules announced by the administration, the one-time dividend will be given to active-duty service members in pay grades O-6 and below who were serving as of November 30, 2025. Members of reserve forces who were on active-duty orders for at least 31 days as of the same date will also qualify. Senior officers above the specified rank are not included in the scheme.

The White House clarified that the payment is not a permanent allowance or salary hike, but a one-off benefit meant to acknowledge military service. Officials said the dividend would not affect existing pay structures or future defence budgets.

Alongside the announcement, Trump reiterated his broader claims on foreign policy and national security. He said the United States had played a decisive role in ending or easing several global conflicts during his current term. Referring to Iran, the President claimed that American air strikes on key facilities had neutralised what he described as a nuclear threat.

Trump also spoke about the situation in Gaza, stating that US intervention helped bring an end to hostilities and led to the return of hostages to Israel. He credited American diplomacy and military strength for what he described as restored stability in the region.

On domestic issues, the President again highlighted his administration’s tough stance on illegal immigration. He claimed that border controls had been strengthened to such an extent that no illegal entries had taken place during his second term so far, calling it a major achievement.
