Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday strongly criticized Opposition leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and TMC MP Mahua Moitra, for what he described as the use of “abusive and undignified language” in political discourse.
Rijiju said that while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) believe in democratic values and contest elections respectfully, some members of the Opposition have “crossed all limits” by targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and even his late mother.
“We are democratic people, and we speak respectfully. But the language used by some Opposition leaders is not right for democracy. Abusing the Prime Minister and his late mother is not good, even for the future of the country,” Rijiju remarked, adding that such behavior erodes the spirit of the Constitution.
He further accused Rahul Gandhi of venting frustration against the people of India, noting that the Opposition blames institutions like the Election Commission instead of working on regaining people’s trust. “They cannot win elections, and abusing the Election Commission will not serve any purpose. People do not vote for them because of their own actions,” Rijiju said.
