Union Minister of Social Justice Ramdas Athawale on Wednesday voiced concern over the recent violence in Parbhani, Maharashtra, and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident. He called for action against those responsible and urged protestors to maintain peace.

Constitution Vandalism Sparks Outrage

The unrest erupted after a replica of the Indian Constitution placed near a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was allegedly vandalized. The accused reportedly broke the glass encasing the replica, which Athawale described as an insult to the Constitution and to Dr. Ambedkar.

?It?s disrespect to the Constitution and Babasaheb Ambedkar. The police have arrested the accused, and I demand strict action against him. It must also be investigated if someone is trying to disturb the peace following the establishment of the Devendra Fadnavis-led government,? Athawale said in a statement to ANI.

Athawale also appealed to Ambedkarite protestors to keep their demonstrations peaceful, emphasizing the importance of unity and calm during such incidents.

Opposition Slams Mahayuti Government

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the BJP-led Mahayuti government for its alleged failure to maintain law and order in the state. Chaturvedi pointed out that Maharashtra currently lacks a full-time Home Minister, which, she argued, reflects the government?s misplaced priorities.

?The violence in Parbhani is shameful. The government is sidelining the Constitution, and there is no accountability for law and order. This shows their priority is to stay in power rather than serve the people,? Chaturvedi told ANI.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut also expressed concerns, alleging that such incidents have increased under the Mahayuti government. ?Since this government came to power, such incidents have become common. People should remain calm, and we must continue to uphold Babasaheb?s ideals,? he said.

Authorities Urge Calm

Parbhani District Magistrate Raghunath Khandu Gawade assured residents that the situation was under control and that additional police forces had been deployed to maintain order.

?The police administration is actively working on the ground. I appeal to everyone to maintain peace and harmony,? Gawade said.

Broader Implications

The incident has sparked a political blame game in Maharashtra, with the opposition accusing the ruling alliance of neglecting its duty to uphold law and order. Meanwhile, protests by Ambedkarite groups have drawn attention to the broader issue of safeguarding constitutional values and ensuring justice for marginalized communities.

As tensions persist, the focus remains on maintaining peace and addressing the grievances of those affected by the violence.
