'Unremitting Hostility Against Minorities Is Alarming': India Condemns Killing Of Hindu Youth In Bangladesh

India on Friday voiced serious concern over the worsening situation for minority communities in Bangladesh, strongly denouncing the recent killing of a Hindu युवक and warning that continued violence cannot be ignored. The Ministry of External Affairs said it expects swift and strict action against those responsible for such crimes.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government is deeply troubled by repeated reports of attacks on minorities across Bangladesh. He described the pattern of violence as persistent and disturbing, stressing that such incidents raise fundamental questions about safety and rule of law in the neighbouring country.

Referring to the latest incident in Rajbari district, where a Hindu man was allegedly lynched following accusations of extortion, Jaiswal said India condemns the killing in the strongest possible terms. He noted that this was not an isolated case and pointed out that another Hindu youth had been killed by a mob just days earlier, highlighting a worrying trend.

India also rejected claims circulating in Bangladesh that attempts are being made to project these incidents as part of an “anti-India narrative.” The MEA clarified that responsibility for maintaining peace and protecting citizens lies squarely with Bangladesh’s interim administration.

According to Indian authorities, thousands of incidents involving violence, intimidation, and harassment of minorities — including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists — have been recorded in recent months. The spokesperson stressed that such numbers cannot be dismissed as exaggeration or routine political clashes.

On questions related to political developments in Bangladesh ahead of next year’s elections, including the possible return of senior opposition leaders, India reiterated its support for a transparent and democratic electoral process. The MEA said these developments should be viewed through the lens of free and fair elections rather than political speculation.
